Wow, what a busy day! Mrs. Jones was absent today so we started our day with a math test. Students did really well! They have shown so much growth in math already! During calendar, we go around and give a math fact about the number of school days we've had (today is day #35). I'm impressed what their math sentences! Woo Hoo! After the test, we worked in our handwriting books.
In writing workshop, we went over expectations for our Weekend News pieces. I related this to our study on narrative writing. I modeled a piece of writing for them and sent them on their way to work. Again, we are getting better at embellishing with details. We continue to work on capitalization and end punctuation too.
In word work, we have 5 new words: which, both, much, pick, watch. We practiced them by writing them and acting them out.
This afternoon, we got together in groups and decided which supplies we would bring for the scarecrow activity. Please let me know if you have a question about what your child is supposed to bring.
In reading, I read Leo the Late Bloomer and we talked about beginning, middle and end. Students practiced picking out beginning, middle and ends of the books they are reading. We then did the work board.
